Warriors get a new logo

The Warriors are getting a new logo. As the Warriors website noted, "just hours before today's 2010 NBA Draft Lottery, warriors.com has “gone dark” as we begin to cleanse the site of its familiar "Flying W" logo in order to make way for a redesigned website featuring our yet-to-be-released new logo and branding." Blogs are buzzing about the new logo looking a lot like one of the older ones but of course updated.
Here is the current "flying w" logo they're getting rid of:

And here is what the rumored new logo looks like, courtesy of Golden State of Mind:

I LOVE it!

Beware of the fin!

Here we go! The Stanley cup NHL semifinals! The San Jose Sharks have been CHOMPING their way through the Playoffs! After taking out the Colorado Avalanche and the Detroit Red Wings, they are now facing the Chicago Blackhawks. In the regular season, the B Hawks won 3 out of the 4 games against the Sharks. On Sunday, the Sharks fell to the Hawks 2-1 at home. Tonight's game is also at the Shark Tank and begins at 7pm. LETS GI SHARKS!!!

NBA 09-10 MVP

For the second year in a row, LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers was named NBA MVP! Anyone have any theories as to why his jersey number is 23 just like the greatest basketball ever, player Michael Jordan?

Every NHL Team is Laughing

Dan Boyle!!! Why???!!!

Any Sharks fan knows that the team's post season has not been that successful. Last year, the top seeded Sharks were shut down by the last seeded Anaheim Ducks. It was absolutely pathetic. The whole city was distraught.
Fast forward to this year's postseason. Once again, the Sharks are number one in their division and are starting the postseason by playing the worst team in their division, the Colorado Avalanche. The Sharks should be winning this series, no question.
Last night, Dan Boyle became the first NHL player to score an own goal in the playoffs. It was overtime and the game winning shot for the Avalanche was made by the Sharks player, Mr. Boyle.
Dan Boyle shot the puck into the San Jose net and scored on his teammate, Evgeni Nabokov. Once again, absolutely pathetic. It wasn't on purpose or anything. He was trying to clear the puck out by passing it to his teammate, but his pass turned into an own goal shot. I wonder what poor Nabokov was thinking when this went down... something like "Really Boyle? Did you really just do that?"

This is about as dumb as it gets. Would you steal money from yourself? Would you key your own car?
The San Jose Sharks have made history...for making the most embarrassing playoff play ever. They better redeem themselves and win this series. I don't think my city can take another season ending like last year...

Decoding the Scoreboard

Take a look at the above scoreboard from a recent Golden State Warriors vs. New Orleans Hornets basketball game. Can you tell what all those numbers mean? Any guesses? Let me break it down:
The Warriors scored 126 points and the Hornets scored 92. Warriors win!!!
The 4 in between the two scores means it is the fourth quarter of the game. Basketball has four quarters in each game.
The Warriors as a team has 5 fouls on the Hornets. The Hornets only committed 4 on the Warriors.
Now take a look at the word Bonus in red on the Hornets side of the scoreboard. If you were watching this game, you might hear someone say "the Hornets are in the bonus." Once the team is in the bonus, they get to shoot free throws for every foul committed the players. It takes five fouls per half for a team to get into the bonus. So, the Warriors committed five fouls combined in the third and fourth quarters, the Hornets get into the bonus, and get to shoot free throws from then on when fouled. Basketball scoreboards seem complex. But its kind of like a guy trying to understand women's clothing or shoe sizes.
Next lets talk about time outs. The yellow 2 on the Warriors side means they have two 30 second time outs left. The Hornets have one. The white 1 next to the Time Outs means Warriors and Hornets both have one longer 60 second time outs.
I hope this helps! Next time you're watching, keep an eye on the number of fouls. You want the team you're rooting for to get into the bonus so they can shoot more free throws and score more points. When the opposing team has 4 fouls, you can say "the Warriors are almost in the bonus!"

Got A Spare $400 million???

...then you can buy the Golden State Warriors!

My poor struggling hometown team is up for sale which is actually good news. The current owner, Chris Cohan hasn't been doing the best job. Players *ahem Stephen Jackson* have left the team because of poor management. There have been rumors of star player Monta Ellis also being unsatisfied. Since the team plays in the Oracle Arena, the most probably buyer is looking to be Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. Or it could be you, if you have an extra $400 million laying around and think you can re-energize the franchise.

This always makes me smile

For someone who loves the Warriors and is heartbroken about their losing record, I love to watch this clip of Ronny Turiaf shutting down superstar Kobe Bryant. It makes me remember why I still watch and go to Warriors games- they are entertaining to watch!

March Madness 2010

March Madness is in full swing right now. The NCAA is the college basketball league and March Madness is the championship tournament to determine who the best college team is.
Did your significant other recently fill out a bracket? The bracket is used to pick which teams you think are going to win the games and ultimately make it to the championship game. Here is President Obama filling out his bracket:

Everyone in the Bay Area is surprised how far St. Mary's College has gotten. They upset the #2 ranked Villanova! Go St. Marys!!!!

This is the best Kimmel could come up with?

I hope you have seen The Handsome Men's Club skit from Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Most of the hotties are actors. And there are a few singers. But the only athlete was Tony Romo! That was the hottest athlete Kimmel could think of? Here are some of my nominations for the Handsome Men's Club:

LaDainian Tomlinson

David Beckham

Cristiano Ronaldo

Barry Zito

Tom Brady

Welcome Back NHL

Not that Olympic Hockey wasn't exciting. I mean, USA tied it up in the last 24 seconds of the gold medal game! I felt conflicted watching the USA- Canada game. I wanted my country to do well. But it was just so unnatural to be rooting against a team that has four of my beloved San Jose Sharks on it.

Patrick Marleau, Dany Heatley, Jumbo Joe Thornton, and Dan Boyle all returned this morning to San Jose with gold medals. American Joe Pavelski returned with a silver. Sharks hockey is back tonight! The Sharks will be taking on the New Jersey Devils at the Shark Tank.

This past month with no NHL has also been hard because there have been no new episodes of my favorite show The Office. NBC has been broadcasting the Olympics and I have been left watching reruns. Pam and Jim's baby is coming this Thursday! Are you excited for the Olympics to be over?

2/23/10

A.I. Out

Behold Allen Iverson's mugshot.
I'm heading to Oakland tonight to watch my Warriors play the 76ers. Allen Iverson will not be playing for the 76ers as he has taken an indefinite leave from the NBA. No, not because he had affairs with 10 different women a la Tiger Woods. Iverson's daughter is ill and he has taken time away from the game to be with her and the family. That is a really hard choice to make. Iverson has had a rough season and is also aging. But family first!

Released

The San Diego Chargers released running back LaDainian Tomlinson after nine years. Wonder where he will end up next? Ask a guy, see what he says. Chances are he would love to share his opinion.

Everybody Eats It At Some Point

So the Winter Olympics are going on right now in Vancouver and Shaun White is cleaning up the snowboarding events. The Winter X Games were about a month before the Olympics. Shaun face plants on the half pipe so hard that his helmet falls off! I'm really not a fan of the snow. I'd rather be on a hot tropical island, sitting in the sand than vacation in the freezing cold. I've been snowboarding a few times and my body was so sore after. I bet Shaun's face felt like a Hummer ran over it.

Twins!

I love seeing families in professional sports. We've got the Williams sisters in tennis, the Manning brothers in the NFL, and the Lopez Twins in the NBA. Brook plays for the New Jersey Nets and his twin brother Robin plays for the Phoenix Suns. Both were drafted in 2008 after playing for only two years at Stanford. Who doesn't love an athletic set of twins?!

Steph Curry Gets Second Place

The Golden State Warriors' own rookie Stephen Curry participated in Footlocker's 3 Point Shootout over All Star Weekend. He ended up getting second place to Paul Pierce. Way to go Steph! Here are some highlights from the event:

NBA All Stars

This weekend is the NBA All Star game! All the best NBA players are taking a break from their teams to play an East vs. West game. Here is my favorite moment from last year's All Star festivities

He's Going to the Olympics

Well, this is Dan Boyle from the San Jose Sharks.
He will be going to the Olympics and playing for the Canadian hockey team.
I don't really have much else to say about this pic.

Sharks Send Most Players To Olympics

The San Jose Sharks will be sending eight players to the Olympics- the most of any NHL team!
Dany Heatley, Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau and Dan Boyle are going to play for Canada.
Joe Pavelski is playing for the US.
Douglas Murray is playing for Sweden.
Evgeni Nabokov and Thomas Greiss are going to play for Russia.
Congrats!

Awwwwww

The Saints won the Super Bowl!!! This is HUGE for New Orleans and I wish I could be on Bourbon Street watching the celebration! Mardi Gras is coming up too. The city will be raging!

Here is my favorite image from the game. Saints quarterback Drew Brees is holding up his one year old son after just having defeated Peyton Manning and the Colts to win the franchise's first ever Super Bowl. What a special moment.

Super Bowl Slang

A guy recently told me he would be impressed if a girl knew and used these terms while watching the Super Bowl today:

worked- to make a fool of somebody

trucked- to take a big hit

burned- to be out run by somebody else

ruined, waxed, and scraped- losing badly

got lit up- to have lots of points scored on you

juked- faked out

de-cleated, tossed- to be hit unexpectedly or from the blind side

sacked- quarterback is tackled before he has thrown the football

Here is a lovely little song by Lonely Island, the creators of such classics as the Emmy award winning Dick in a Box and I'm On a Boat. This song, called We Like Sportz, has a line that goes: "Watching sports with girls is a pain/ They don't know the rules, there's no time to explain." Remember, fake it till you make it. GO GET EM TODAY LADIES!!! Drop those football terms!
